There is a new trend ATM scam or fraud called skimming. The thief or scammer secretly install a card reader device with a memory chip, which copies the data from your ATM card, in the machine. to get the ATM PIN number these crooks attached or put a tiny camera or fake keypads to capture the PIN numbers
